HAPPY TOGETHER
The very first time Nilda (75) saw Stanley (74), she knew
that one day he would be her husband.
They have been happily married for 51 years now.
"We laugh and dance a lot, that is our secret."

‘WE ARE TRUE VAN DER VALK FANS’
Nilda: "I was 24 years old and working in the office of a large American company in Curaçao. During my lunch break in the cafeteria, I saw a young man walk in. What a cutie, I thought. ‘See that guy over there?’ I asked my colleague next to me. 'I'm going to marry him!' Yes, that's really how it happened. A few days later, we ran into each other in the hallway. We started talking and immediately hit it off. Less than three months later, he whispered in my ear, ‘Will you marry me?’ Yes, I would. We got married on March 1, 1973. I'm a morning person, so we were already in the church at eight o'clock in the morning. Stanley wore a black jacket, white pants, and white shoes, and I wore a beautiful white dress and carried a wedding bouquet with two red carnations in the middle. Afterward, there was a short reception with my family, friends, and colleagues. The idea was to fly to Bonaire immediately afterwards to toast our marriage with Stanley's family and friends. But once we got to the airport, it turned out the plane was broken. We waited for eight hours, in our wedding clothes, until someone finally offered to take us there in his private plane. That thing wobbled back and forth, which was quite exciting. Once we landed, all the guests had already left, of course. We went to Hotel Bonaire for our wedding night. A wedding to remember. We love each other, that's our secret. We understand each other, we laugh and dance a lot, we are young at heart. We made a conscious decision never to have children. We chose each other, not children. That means we've always had plenty of time for each other and been free to go wherever we want. We do love children, though! Our friends' children are all our bonus children. They love coming to visit us. When we have something to celebrate, we do it together. For our 51st wedding anniversary, we had a delicious brunch at Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen Lent. As a surprise, the wait staff congratulated us with flowers, cake, and fireworks on our plates. Amazing! We celebrated our 50th anniversary with two nights at Van der Valk Hotel Tiel. Yes, we are real Van der Valk fans. Everything is beautifully cared for, and the atmosphere is pleasant and friendly. And we love the style: sleek and modern. The hotels and the food are completely to our taste.
