VAN DER VALK MOST POPULAR HOTEL CHAIN AMONG THE DUTCH

In the past three years, more than half (52%) of the Dutch population has stayed overnight in a hotel in the Netherlands. The chains Van der Valk and Fletcher Hotels dominate the market. Hotel guests stay the longest at Enjoyhotels. Nearly one in five (17%) hotel visits is for business purposes. This is shown in the National Benchmark Hotel Chains, a study conducted by Multiscope among over 5,000 Dutch people.

More than half (52%) of Dutch adults have visited at least one hotel chain in the past three years. This accounts for almost 7.6 million Dutch visitors who together represent nearly 27.2 million hotel stays. Van der Valk and Fletcher Hotels dominate the market. A whopping 27% of the population stayed at Van der Valk, followed by Fletcher Hotels with 22%. NH Hotels, ibis, and Bastion Hotels complete the top five.

Longest duration of stay

Hotel guests stay an average of 1.8 nights at a hotel chain. Visitors stay the longest on average at Enjoyhotels (4.1). Corendon Hotels follows with an average length of stay of 3.5 nights. Visitors also stay relatively long at Stayokay (2.0), Westcord Hotels (1.9), and Bilderberg (1.9).

17% of all visits are for business.

As much as 83% of all hotel visits in the Netherlands are private and 17% are business-related. At Hampshire Hotels, over half (52%) of the visits are for business purposes. Furthermore, the percentage of business visits is also relatively high at Postillion Hotels (41%), Mercure (40%), NH Hotels (32%), and Leonardo Hotels (32%).
