"We always want to innovate, make sustainable improvements," Esther says. An example? In 2019, they were on the roof of the sixth floor, near the engine room. Esther looked around and thought: what a beautiful place, why aren't we doing anything with it? "Jan-Willem was thinking the exact same thing at that moment," she says with a smile. "The next day, he put a table there and we had lunch together with a view over Almelo. That's when we knew for sure: we have to do something with this place in the future. And now, a beautiful Rooftop terrace has been opened in this spot."

Flavors and trends of today

The restaurant of Theaterhotel Almelo has a new interior and a new name: Marly Bistro Cuisine. Here, everything revolves around experience - a high level of hospitality in an intimate atmosphere. "We focus on more interaction with the guest and table preparations are an important factor," says Jan-Willem. "We work with classic bistro dishes, but also with flavors and trends of today. For example, the steak tartare is prepared at the table, but the menu also includes dishes with ingredients such as matcha or yuzu. 'Classic sexy' is a catchy description for this restaurant."

Luxe fitness

Esther is also proud of the Toucan Fit Boutique. "I didn't have knowledge of the fitness or beauty industry myself," she says with a smile, "but I did have the ability to bring together the right people and concepts. With the aim of creating an exclusive total concept in the hotel in the field of sports and wellness. I am very happy with the result so far and look forward to expanding the offering even further with yoga and pilates." The stylish, luxurious fitness center is equipped with the latest TechnoGym equipment. There is also a generous package of outdoor group classes. The heated indoor pool has been given a touch-up and the wellness facilities have been enriched with two Floating Spas, beauty treatments, and massages.

New territory

The SpareRoom is the brand-new hotspot of Theaterhotel Almelo in the field of entertainment. You can reserve private bowling lanes where you can play your own music and determine the color of the lighting yourself. There are private cinemas, private karaoke rooms, race simulators, and even a pool table with projection. 'It is completely new territory for us and for Almelo,' says Esther. 'Exciting, but we strongly believe that it will be a success and that not only our hotel guests, but also people from the area will find The SpareRoom.' In addition to these renovations, 93 hotel rooms received a complete makeover, with fresh interiors and modern facilities. Recently, the last wing with Superior rooms and long-stay apartments has also been completely renovated and made more sustainable.

Plans

Now that the renovation of the hotel rooms is completed and The Rooftop, Marly Bistro Cuisine, Toucan Fit Boutique, and The SpareRoom are open, the Theaterhotel is almost completely renewed. However, Esther and Jan-Willem are not resting on their laurels. "It's a large building, so it never stops," says Jan-Willem. "We already have some exciting plans for the breakfast area." Esther adds: "We do everything under the flag of Theaterhotel Almelo, but each concept has its own identity and charm. This way, the hotel remains versatile and surprising."
